Calf diarrhea remains a significant cause of productivity and economic loss. Newborn calves have low gastrointestinal barrier function and immunity before weaning, making them highly susceptible to infection by various pathogens. During diarrhea, the epithelial cells lining the small and large intestines can be severely damaged, trigger an inflammatory response, reduces the surface area available for nutrient and water absorption. Therefore, it is crucial to identify specific host cell types and targets alongside microbiome analysis to design optimal treatments for calf diarrhea,
