Outline of Research at the Start

欧州各国に活躍した人文主義的秘書官は、近年の研究において礫岩国家とも称される近世国家を動かす、中世都市国家の公吏とも近代集権国家の行政官僚とも異なる、1近世初頭欧州特有の社会的存在であった。マキアヴェッリやボダン、モアに代表される彼らは、統治の現場から新たな政治観を提示する実務思想家として、その言説と活動によりかかる国家を体現した。通常近代官僚の先駆として理解されがちな人文主義的秘書官を、それとは異質な特徴と意味を担う人間類型として把握する点に本研究の独創性がある。彼らの言説と行動の歴史的理解を通じ、彼らが仕えた近世礫岩国家の実像の解明と、西欧近世の政治思想文化史の描き直しが期待される。
