Outline of Research at the Start	狼煙通信は不確定性はあるものの、前近代では優れた高速通信技術であったため、江戸時代でも全国各地で採用されていた。本研究では、全国各地に設置された江戸時代の狼煙台について、文書史料で記された位置情報や、現地に残された考古遺跡から狼煙台の構造を明らかにする。また中国や韓国でも使用されていた狼煙通信と比較することによっても、当時の狼煙通信のシステムを解明し、最終的には沿岸監視・防衛に対する当時の人々の意識を究明することを目的としている。
