Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、日本列島の製鉄開始期 (6世紀後半～7世紀初頭) 頃を示す可能性のある北部九州の鉄製遺物の始発原料を考古学・自然科学的視点から推定し、この地域の最古の鉄生産・流通を明らかにすることを目的とする。北部九州から出土した鉄製遺物と周辺の砂鉄を自然科学的に分析することで、鉄製遺物の始発原料推定に関する一貫した研究基盤を確立する。具体的には、1) 長期埋蔵に伴い表面が腐食した鉄製遺物から化学的に変質していない分析値を取得する、2) 古代北部九州における鉄生産の始発原料を推定する、3) 考古学的調査および自然科学分析を通して、古代北部九州の鉄生産の全容を解明することが本研究の目的である。
