Outline of Research at the Start

蚊が媒介する感染症（デング熱・日本脳炎・マラリアなど）による死亡者数は世界で年間725,000人に上る。対策の一つであるワクチンは、日本脳炎・マラリアの２種類しかなく、デング熱に有効なワクチンはない。そのため、忌避（虫よけ）剤は有効な防衛手段である。しかし、現在、使用されている忌避剤は、合成有機化合物であるディート（忌避成分）がアルコール（溶剤）に溶解した製剤であり、生体安全性に問題がある。本研究では、安心・安全で効果的な忌避剤の創製を目指し、『天然の精油（忌避成分）を安全な水中に分散した水中油滴型エマルション（O/W-Em）忌避剤』の開発を行う。
