Outline of Research at the Start

2019年末に始まった新型コロナウイルス感染症の流行を契機に、下水疫学情報を感染症対策に活用する取り組みが進められている。本研究のように、下水を含むさまざまな水環境から既知の病原ウイルス変異株や未知の病原ウイルスを検知・監視するシステムを構築できれば、国際的に大きな影響を与える成果として発信できる。また、人獣共通感染症を含む「ワンヘルス」の観点からも、国際的な関心が高い重要な研究である。
