Outline of Research at the Start

Direct introduction of functionality into simple or complex molecules is of much interest, but in order to control reactivity and selectivity, typically specialized organic substrates must be used. This research aims at the development of a general strategy for the functionalization of a target C-H bond (and other strong bonds) in simple or complex arenes in an efficient and site-selective manner. This will be achieved through the design multifunctional ligands that recognize an organic substrate through noncovalent pi interactions.
