Outline of Research at the Start

Our group has described the first examples of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-stabilized nanoclusters Although pure-gold clusters are of interest because of their potential use in biology, clusters containing platinum group metals are interesting because of their potential catalytic activity. In this proposal, two types of clusters will be explored for catalytic activity in this proposal, those like the Au8Pt cluster, which have an exposed metal atom, and those of the Au12M type, which have an encapsulated non-gold atom. And a variety of catalytic reactions will be tested with these clusters.
