Outline of Research at the Start

樹皮は、樹体を環境ストレスや病虫害から守る重要な役割を持つため、その特性の解明は樹木の環境適応や森林の生態系機能の理解につながる。樹皮の外見や厚さなどの特性は樹種や森林タイプで多様であるが、定量的評価は遅れており、環境適応性との関連については不明な点が多い。本研究では、日本から東南アジアの様々な森林を対象に、樹皮特性の網羅的定量化、樹皮動態の解明、樹皮バイオマスの推定技術の開発、樹皮特性を指標とした環境適応性や、森林生態系のバイオマスや物質・水循環に与える影響を評価する。
