乳癌と診断され術前に腋窩リンパ節に転移を認めた場合、現在の標準治療は腋窩郭清一択であるが、実は腋窩郭清で摘出する10～30個のリンパ節のうち3個または2個以下の転移しか認めないことも多い。一方腋窩郭清は、癌が根治した後も、リンパ浮腫、上肢機能異常などの合併症の原因となる。そのため、不要な腋窩郭清は可能な限り回避することが望ましい。そこで現在、センチネルリンパ節生検に転移リンパ節の標識を加えた新たな腋窩縮小手術手技開発のため、「cN+原発性乳癌に対する新たな腋窩縮小手術Tailored axillary surgery(TAS)の安全性と有用性に関するFeasibility 試験」を行っている。
