Outline of Research at the Start

現在田畑になっている多くの山間の谷底平野にはかつて、自然の山地氾濫原が広がっていた。本研究では、山地氾濫原の巨木の森が様々な水域生息場形成そして落ち葉・虫・小型哺乳類など多様な餌生物の供給を通じて氾濫原生態系を支え、巨魚の成育を可能にするという仮説をたて、幻の巨魚イトウの生息する稀少な山地氾濫原での局地的なプロセス研究を行うとともに、広域的なパターン研究により過去から現在への山地河川の変遷と実態を調べる。
