Outline of Research at the Start

草原は陸域の主要な生態系であるが、気候変動で予想される積雪量や消雪タイミングの変化が及ぼす影響は十分に解明されていない。そこで、気候変動にともなう積雪変化が、モンゴル草原生態系とその生態系サービスにどのような影響を及ぼすのか解明する。影響を様々な時空間スケールで分析し理解するため、野外操作実験、広域フィールド調査、長期データの時系列解析から成る、統合的研究プロジェクトを実施する。積雪変化の影響は様々な生態系や地域で調べられているものの、モンゴル草原を含むユーラシアステップを対象とした研究はほとんどない。本研究はその広大な研究空白地帯を対象としたパイオニア的な取り組みである。
