Outline of Research at the Start	本研究の目的は、英領インドの重要な哲学潮流である「近代アドヴァイタ主義」の系譜を、19世紀後半に活躍したグジャラート知識人の思想の中に探ることにある。特に19世紀末のグジャラートで名を馳せたM.N.ドヴィヴェーディーの哲学とその思想的先駆者であるナルマダーシャンカルの影響関係を、グジャラーティー語の一次史料から解明する。さらに、これらのグジャラート知識人の思想が、後のヴィヴェーカーナンダやガーンディーらのナショナリズム思想に与えた影響の分析へと発展させる。本研究は、従来の東部・北部中心の近代インド思想史研究の枠組みに、西部グジャラートからの新たな視点を加え、その刷新を図るものである。
