Outline of Research at the Start	本研究では、南方熊楠がどのような情報を用いて「十二支考」を執筆したかについての分析を進める。特に大英博物館で作成した「ロンドン抜書」や定住後に作成した「田辺抜書」および旧蔵書などのデータベースを用いて、「十二支考」に記されたさまざまな動物に関する逸話やフォークロアの淵源を探る。こうした分析に基づいて「十二支考」に註釈をほどこし、これまで難解とされてきたこの著作を包括的に理解できるようにする。また現代語訳を作成することで、一般読者が容易に読めるかたちへと調えていく
