Outline of Research at the Start	神仏習合は、日本宗教思想史研究におけるきわめて重要な領域をなしているが、その一方で、大きな誤解を伴ったまま一般社会に流布している概念でもある。義務教育課程の日本史において、日本独自の思想的特色であるかのように述べていることに、その原因の一端があるといって過言ではあるまい。しかしここ20 年程、我が国の神仏習合をより広い視点から見ようという研究が進んでいる。本研究は、こうした昨今の研究動向をも踏まえ、我が国の神仏習合（修験道を中心とする）と東アジア諸国の「シンクレティズム」（特に霊山信仰を中心とする）の、「双方向的な影響」を検討する必要性に応える試みである。
