本研究は、連邦制国家ベルギー形成に芸術が果たした役割を、音楽アイデンティティ創出の諸相を中心に解明するものである。連邦制という新体制における「国家形成と文化の関係」は、人文科学分野での重要な課題であり続け、未だ進んでいない音楽分野の研究が待たれている。本研究では、ベルギー諸言語共同体の王立/公立音楽院・劇場における記述・作品・活動と、音楽を中心とした芸術文化・教育政策との関係を、近隣諸国および周辺芸術からの影響関係も含めて読み解く。それによって、ベルギーにおける新たな音楽アイデンティティが、複雑な言語・文化的多層性の環境下でいかに創出され、連邦制国家ベルギー形成をいかに支えたのかを考察する。
