Outline of Research at the Start

両大戦間期、多くのヨーロッパの芸術家が前衛的画風を捨てて伝統へと立ち返ろうとした。この動向は美術史において一般的に「秩序への回帰」と呼ばれ、前衛への反動として、第二次世界大戦へ向かうナショナリズムと結びつけられて理解されてきた。しかしイタリアでは古典への回帰は、モダニズム的な純粋絵画の追求という問題意識と結びつき、古代エトルリアから盛期ルネサンスまで様々な過去の美術の再発見を促した。本研究では、雑誌『ヴァローリ・プラスティチ』周辺の芸術家、および批評家サルファッティの主導したノヴェチェント派の二つのグループを分析し、イタリア美術における「古典」なるものの多様性とその意義を明らかにする。
