Outline of Research at the Start

近年、古代ローマ彫刻はようやくそれ自体で語られるようになったが、研究者の関心はその制作の時点に集中している。しかし申請者は、出土彫刻を詳細に検討する中で、そこに古代のあいだに加えられた修復・再加工・意図的破壊などの痕跡を見て取った。同じような事例は、東地中海ではすでに指摘されているが、イタリア半島においてはまだほとんど研究されていない。本研究は、主に1-2世紀に制作された彫像が、その後5-6世紀に至るまでにどのような「人生」を送ったかを、イタリア半島の遺跡での出土品を中心として検討し、従来のローマ彫刻研究のなかで見落とされていた古代ローマ彫像文化の一側面を探ろうとするものである。
