Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は南インドにおける宗教美術について、特にイクシュヴァーク朝滅亡以降4世紀からタミル地方のパラッヴァ朝が再興する6世紀後半から8世紀を中心に不明な点が多い宗教美術（仏教・ヒンドゥー教）をその研究対象とする。ヒンドゥー世界に仏教は共存しながら宗教美術が展開していった点に注視し、特にアーンドラ地方で培った仏教的な基盤を下地にして、どのようにアーンドラ地方、タミル地方間の宗教美術が醸成されていくかについて、寺院建造工法・形式である馬蹄形寺院、石窟寺院、またこの期間に展開する密教美術を含む仏教美術の動向や周辺諸王朝との関係など多角的な視点によって、当該地方の宗教美術の展開と構造を明らかにしていく。
