Outline of Research at the Start

漱石の後期三部作と呼ばれる『彼岸過迄』『行人』『こころ』の男性知識人たちは、何かを恐れている。その具体的な例としては『こころ』の「先生」の視線恐怖症と言ってもいい感性のあり方がある。また、『行人』の大学教授・長野一郎は「速さ」を恐れている。視線恐怖症は日本人特有の神経症だとされている。一方、漱石の留学したイギリスは「速さ」の国だとされている。後期三部作の男性知識人たちは、この日本とイギリスの間に引き裂かれ続けていたようだ。それが日本近代に特有の感性ではないだろうか。これらを具体的に明らかにしたいと考えている。
