Outline of Research at the Start

本研究が課題とするのは、中世日本の宗教文化を作りあげ、後世に大きな影響を及ぼした女院の宗教空間であり、これを促した女院自身の宗教的主体性である。具体的には、後白河院第六皇女の宣陽門院（1181～1252）に着目し、その宗教実践のために創出された醍醐寺閻魔堂や東寺御影堂、融通念仏など、中世の画期的な宗教空間の復元的研究を行う。また、宣陽門院の人生儀礼を探査し、その文化的記憶を受け継ぐ有形無形の宗教文化遺産を見出して、基盤資料の収集、解読と分析を行うことによって、境界宗教空間の主催者としての宣陽門院の宗教的主体性を明らかにする。
