Outline of Research at the Start	白河天皇親政期の和歌活動を考察するにあたって、従来の研究では、親政期末に成立した勅撰集『後拾遺集』を分析の基準線としてきた。ただしその際、『後拾遺集』に至るまでの親政期全期における歌壇の展開、歌風の変遷は考慮していないのが現状である。親政期全期の和歌活動を分析、再評価して、その成果を研究に広く活用することが今後重要となる。そこで本研究では、宮廷歌壇のあるじ・白河天皇の和歌好尚を軸として、白河天皇親政期全体の歌壇の特質や歌風を分析することにより、摂関期から院政期へと政治的にも文学的にも大転換する時期に白河天皇歌壇が文学史に果たした役割を明らかにする。
