Outline of Research at the Start

『チャイルド・ハロルドの巡礼』（1812-18）は、1880-1920年代に、編集者による解釈が書き加えられた編集本が数多く刊行され、読者に提供されてきた。本作品は、これまでに19世紀初期の読者受容や出版状況に関心が寄せられてきたが、ヴィクトリア朝終焉期から1930年代に入るまでの受容においては研究に空白が見られる。本研究では、読者に対する教育を意図した編集・注釈から、この時期の読者が編集本からどのような知識を読み取っていたかを分析する。そして、ヴィクトリア朝終焉期以降の想定された読者が持つ既存の知識や学習状況を逆算し、本作品を用いて読者が学び取っていた教育的情報を分析する。
