Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、20世紀前半（特に1920年代から1930年代）における日系アメリカ人の文学を、西海岸地方の日系コミュニティ（在米日本人社会）に加え、中西部、東海岸への移動、および日本の文壇との相互関係にも留意しながら、発表媒体であった邦字新聞を主軸に、総合的にその流れ、特徴、位置づけを明らかにするものである。それによって、作家・文芸人の個別的研究に終始しがちであった日系アメリカ文学の歴史研究に、新たな知見を投じるものである。その際デジタル化された邦字新聞を活用し、重要な作品のデータベース化も行う。また、アメリカの研究者との学術交流も進め、20世紀前半の日系アメリカ文学研究の進展を目指す。
