First, I will explore the roots and evolution of universalism. Then, I will examine the African American response to it. Lastly, I will contrast Afro-pessimist skepticism with Immanuel Wallerstein’s proposal for a "more universal universalism" and Achille Mbembe’s promotion of epistemic diversity.
