Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は F.L.ヤーンの提唱した「民族性 Volkstum」の概念およびトゥルネン(Turnen)を軸に、近代ドイツにおける個人的身体の自覚と共同体意識の覚醒との連関を探るものである。
彼の推進したトゥルネンは、汎愛派の啓蒙的体育に、ロマン主義的な民族性の概念を注入して成ったものである。ここに見られる保革接合のキメラ的特質は同時代の愛国的言説に共通するが、ヤーンの特性は、トゥルネンを媒介=メディアとして、多くの若者にドイツ人の共同体という理念を身体で経験させたところにある。この点に注目し、トゥルネンの中に近代的な個人と伝統的共同体との対立関係が止揚される機序を指摘するのが狙いである。
