Outline of Research at the Start	イザベラ・メアリー・ビートン（1836-65)は、英国の家政書・料理書の編著者として著名であるが、彼女の代表作The Book of Household Management（1861）以降の作品に関する詳細な分析や比較研究は行われていない。また、彼女の作品の翻訳書に関する体系的な研究は、現時点で確認できない。本研究では、主にThe Book of Household Managementの縮刷版とその翻訳書を取り上げ、ビートン夫人が描いた理想的なヴィクトリア朝の主婦像が、時代背景に合わせてどのように変化し、明治期日本の主婦像の生成や伝播にどの程度影響を与えたか、を解明する。
