Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、英語方言間における音声変異(発音バリエーション)の実態を明らかにし、音声変異における言語学的情報(音韻環境と単語頻度)と社会指標的情報(年齢、性別、地域的所属、人種と民族等)の機能と関係性を探究する調音・社会音声学的研究である。本研究の主要な問いは2つある。第一に「話しことばを生成する調音運動の制御には、どのような言語学的条件や生物学的制約があるのか」という音声研究の根本的問題に取り組み、個人レベルの音声変異と変化の基礎要因を探究する。そして第二に「変異形はどのように選択され、社会指標的情報を伝達するのか」という問いを設定し、グループレベルの音声変異と変化を組織化する要因を探究する。
