日英語の比較に基づき、名詞の下位分類がどのようになっているかを解明する。日本語には英語で観察されない分類詞があって、名詞の下位分類といえばそれがすぐ想起されるが、本研究ではそのような表層的な次元にとどまらず、統語的性質に着目する形での下位分類を目指す。下位分類のさらなる下位分類という可能性も動詞について指摘されており、名詞についてもそれを視野に入れる。
