Outline of Research at the Start	現代英語のパンクチュエーションマークは、ピリオド、セミコロン、コロン、コンマなどから成るが、日本語には句読点しかないので、それぞれの使い方、関係性を理解することが難しい。また、主節と従属節を接続させるときは、接続詞が必要とされるのが基本だが、ペーパーバックなどではコンマだけの事例が見られることが多くなっている。本研究は、なぜそのような接続詞のない文を適切に理解できるのか、から出発し、これまで言語学の対象とは必ずしも見られてこなかったパンクチュエーションの事象を認知語用論としての関連性理論の視点から分析、考察するものである。
