Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、米国統治下の沖縄を対象に、冷戦期を含む20世紀転換期以降、米国がグローバルに展開した「植民地」（いわゆる非編入領土等）における〈人と領域の区分〉、すなわち統治者／被統治者、本国／植民地の区別に基づく統治政策について、法的地位や入管制度等を通して解明する歴史研究である。本研究では、〈人と領域の区分〉をめぐる諸制度を統治実践の水準で吟味し、一方で沖縄現代史を米国の「植民地」史と架橋し、他方で米国のグローバルな覇権を支えた植民地的支配に共通する統治のあり方を解明する。これにより沖縄や太平洋諸島、プエルトリコ等といった既存の地域史を乗り越え、包括的な米国「植民地」史の刷新に貢献する。
