Outline of Research at the Start	奈良県奈良市に所在する西大寺は、奈良時代に孝謙上皇の発願によって創建された古代寺院であるが、鎌倉時代に戒律復興運動を行った叡尊が拠点としたことにより、中世の南都律宗教団の中心ともなった寺院である。このため西大寺は、平安期以来の興福寺末寺としての性格と、中世律宗教団の拠点としての性格を併せもつ、一つの特異な寺院となった。しかしそれにもかかわらず、西大寺自体の研究は、その史料が厖大であることもあり、十分に行われてきたとは言い難い状況にあった。本研究では、この厖大な西大寺の史料から、中世文書の所在を明確化するとともに史料画像をデジタル化し、西大寺史や日本中世史のための研究基盤整備を図るものである。
