Outline of Research at the Start

近世後期には、古への関心が高まり、好古趣味や考証研究が盛んとなる。しかしこの潮流は、古物や古画のみならず、「異国」の風俗や動植物、あるいは旅先の風物や同時代の大衆文化等、多様な対象への多角的興味とも重複し、影響しあっていた。また、近世における考証研究の興隆は、西洋や中国などでも見られ、比較史の材料として、日本の好古・考証に対する海外からの関心も高い。本研究では、歴史や文学等の分野を横断しつつ、海外の研究協力者とともに研究を進め、日本の考証研究の特質を探り、研究成果を英語で発信することで比較史の材料として供することを目指す。
