Outline of Research at the Start	日清戦争以降、日露戦争、第1次世界大戦を経て、日本は植民地および勢力圏を獲得し、その統治のための知識と手法を必要とするようになり、現地行政を担当する植民地官僚たちは、大英帝国をはじめとする欧米諸国の統治状況を重要な参照対象として積極的に調査・研究した。その成果は、報告書、著作物、講演など様々な形で紹介・分析・共有され、植民地統治政策の策定過程で大きな影響力を及ぼした。しかし、実際の政策への適用は彼らの大英帝国観に基づいて選択的に行われた。本研究では、植民地官僚の大英帝国観の検討を通じて、両国の植民地統治政策における共通点と相違点を明らかにし、それらを当時の国際的文脈の中に位置づける。
