Outline of Research at the Start

３人のアメリカ人女性海洋学者を起点として、1960～70年代アメリカにおける海洋研究と外交の関係について考察する。３人は「女性科学者が調査船に乗る」という未踏の領域に挑戦し、また環境問題がグローバルな政策課題としての環境問題に取り組んだという点でも共通項がある。本研究は、彼女らの経験とその背景にあった政治・外交・文化を分析することによって、科学研究におけるジェンダー、学術、国家、国際規範をめぐる摩擦や緊張関係を浮き彫りにする。またそのことを通して、1960～70年代アメリカの科学・外交・環境の相互関係を明らかにし、今日にも通じる科学外交の諸課題に新たな光を当てる。
