Outline of Research at the Start	本研究は、これまでの海事史研究の動向を踏まえながら、エリザベス時代から初期ステュアート朝時代の海事史(Maritime History)について、当時の船乗り(seamen)に関わる史料を読み解き、彼らに語らせながら彼らの「生きられた経験」を明らかにし、従来のように「ナショナルな、そして強いイギリスの英雄的物語」ではなく、そうしたナショナルな物語に回収しきれず、命を落としても誰も記録・記憶にとどめることのなかった無数の船乗りの多様な姿やアイデンティティを掘り起こし、いわば「不安定で弱いイギリス」の実態を明らかにする。
