Outline of Research at the Start	真珠湾攻撃の当日から終戦まで、ハワイでは統治権を握った軍が戒厳令を敷き、マス・メディアを検閲したが、日系アメリカ人が発行する「敵国語」（日本語）新聞はこれにどう応じたのか？本研究の目的は、日米開戦直後の軍による発行停止命令、約1ヵ月後の再開許可、その後、終戦近くまでつづいた検閲をめぐり、存続をはかるハワイの日本語新聞が講じた対抗戦略を、軍当局や検閲官個人とのやりとり、報道内容・論調、人事、用紙・資材調達などにおける配慮や当局との交渉、プロパガンダ政策への協力、新聞発行以外の収入源の模索などに焦点をあて、多種多様な一次史料を駆使して努めて実証的に解明することである。
