Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では，近代ドイツにおける民主主義発展の重要な転機となった三月革命における市民層の役割について，自発的結社（協会）に集まる彼らの具体的活動に焦点を当て検討を進める。このような研究は，近代ヨーロッパにおける民主主義発展の歴史的背景を「市民的公共性」のレベルで理解することにつながるものである。近年，西欧を中心に発展してきた議会制民主主義の機能不全がしばしば指摘されるなか，政府から独立して活動を展開するNPOやNGOなどの団体が，新たな「市民的公共性」の担い手として注目を集めている。本研究により，近年行きづまりを見せる西欧型民主主義の問題について，新たな知見が得られるものと期待される。
