Outline of Research at the Start

本研究の目的は、19世紀後半におけるカナダ太平洋鉄道の建設と、その建設を支えたイギリスからの対カナダ資本投資がイギリス本国・植民地間の金融関係の緊密化に与えた影響を検討することである。カナダ太平洋鉄道は、東部製造業地域と西部農業地域を接続することで、後のカナダ経済発展の基盤を形成した。他方で、植民地内に資本を欠くカナダは、同鉄道の建設に際して、イギリスからの多額の資本投資を必要とした。この鉄道建設を通じてのカナダによる本国金融利害との関係性構築、またカナダのネイション・ビルディング、帝国経済構造に占めるカナダの位置付けの認識について、ブリティッシュ・ワールド論の視点を踏まえつつ、分析を行う。
