Outline of Research at the Start

スペイン人は16世紀初めから19世紀初めまで南米の多くの地域の諸社会を支配下に収めたが、その帰結のひとつは在来の民族の消滅とそれに伴う先住民のアイデンティティの変容である。スペイン人は多数の小集落に分散して暮らす先住民を人口規模の大きな町に強制移住させた。先住民は当初抵抗したが、やがてそれらの町を基盤として共同体を再構築し、新たなアイデンティティを育んだ。本研究は、アマゾン北西部のモホス地方のイエズス会ミッションを対象として、このラディカルな社会文化変容のメカニズムを解明する。その際、イエズス会が建設した6つの町の洗礼簿を詳細に分析し、先住民の社会組織とアイデンティティの変容過程を再構成する。
