Outline of Research at the Start

古墳時代におこなわれていた様ざまな儀礼について、発掘調査によって確認された痕跡からその意味を探ることを目的とする。古墳から見つかる儀礼の痕跡や葬送儀礼にかかわる古墳以外の場所での遺構、王権（首長権）継承儀礼の場について、集成する。また、人物埴輪を中心とする埴輪群像について、それぞれの姿態ごとに検討し、形象埴輪群像が表す儀礼の具体像を明らかにしたい。祭祀遺跡・祭祀遺構との対比が重要と考えているので、本研究を通して様ざまな可能性の中からその意義を論じたい。全体を通して、文献史料との対比をおこなうことが必須であると考えているので、積極的に文献史学の成果とも突き合わせをしていきたい。
