Outline of Research at the Start	先スペイン期の中南米地域で栄えたメソアメリカ文明と中央アンデス文明に挟まれた地域を中間領域と呼ぶ。両文明が中央集権制都市国家を形成していたことに対し、中間領域では小規模な首長制社会が形成されていた。本研究では、中間領域に位置するニカラグア共和国マタガルパ県マティグアス郡における考古学調査を通して、古代儀礼センターの存在を立証し、当該地域における古代社会の解釈に新たな知見を与えることを目的としている。また考古学調査により得られた成果をコミュニティに還元し、遺跡および周辺地域に残る文化財をコミュニティ住民の力で保全、管理するための持続可能なコミュニティ・ミュージアム設立に向けた活動を実施する。
