Outline of Research at the Start

アケメネス朝期（紀元前550年～330年）の北部イランは東西交易の結節点と位置付けられ
ており、東京大学が調査を行ったデーラマン地域からは西側の特徴を持つ遺物と東側の特徴を持つものが混在している。
本研究ではデーラマン地域の考古遺物のうち未だ包括的な研究が行われていないガラス質物質「ファイアンス」に焦点を当てる。ファイアンスはエジプトを中心とする西側地域で生産されたものとメソポタミア（現イラク以東）の東側地域の産物では組成や形式が異なる。本研究ではファイアンスの科学的・型式学的調査により、当時の交易、そして交易者の様相を明らかにし、古代オリエントの西側と東側の物質文化の関係性を明らかにする。
