Outline of Research at the Start	本研究では「日米で損害賠償制度に関する一般人の法意識はどの程度違うのか？」ということに関して，賠償額を判断する際に被害者の損害填補と加害者の制裁・抑止のいずれを重視するかについての一般の人々の判断の日米での違いや，様々な状況において一般の人々が適切だと思う賠償額の日米での違いを明らかにすることをめざす。そのために，損害賠償に関する事例を日米の人々に読んでもらいそれに関連して法意識について尋ねる形式の質問票調査を日米で行い，結果を統計的に比較して日米での違いを分析する。
