Outline of Research at the Start	本研究では、米国の東アジア同盟関係の動揺と維持という視角から米中国交正常化をとらえ直す。これまでの研究では、カーター大統領官が米国の力の相対的低下を補うため、日本の経済的影響力をベトナムとの外交交渉上の梃子としようとした事実を指摘した。こうした事実は、同盟国間の拘束は、大国が同盟国のパワーリソースを自国の戦略構想に利用する目的からも行われることを示唆する。本研究は自身のこれまでの研究成果に対する考察をさらに深めていくことを目指しており、米国が新たな対ソ戦略構想の実現に向け同盟国のパワーリソースをどのように動員したのかを考察し、同盟国間の拘束のメカニズムに新たな知見を提供する。
