Outline of Research at the Start	本研究では、以下の点を解明することを目的とする。第１に、中国では、10世紀末期に同様な宋銭流通を背景として為替文書が発生し、そのもとで短期間のうちに民間から紙幣が誕生したのに対して、日本の為替手形－割符―は紙幣に発展しなかった理由。第２に、中世の割符は、16世紀初頭にいったん消滅するのだが、同じようなしくみが、近世においては復活することがなかった理由。第３に、それにもかかわらず、紙幣は日本近世において短期間のうちに発生した理由。第４に、近世初期に紙幣が発生する直前までの、中世後半期の為替技術の発達状況。
