Outline of Research at the Start	本研究の目的は、米国の中小規模旧工業都市における再活性化を遂げた商店街に関する事例研究を通じて、再活性化のメカニズムを解明したうえで、構成員の多様性が再活性化に及ぼす影響を理論的・経験的に検討することである。本研究の学術的独自性は、米国の旧工業都市の再生に関する先行研究で注目されなかった中小規模都市に焦点を合わせて、起業の場として重要な商店街の再活性化メカニズムを検討することである。本研究の創造性は、公的支援・指導が少ない米国商店街を分析することにより、公的支援・指導が多い日本の事例に基づく商店街研究の理論枠組みを再検討し、発展させることである。研究期間は４年である。
