Outline of Research at the Start

マス・メディアや政府・自治体によって実施される世論調査は、今日、民主的な政治制度の中の１つの装置として機能しているが、他方で、世論調査には、「統治のツール」としての役割がある。冷戦期以降の広報外交においては、同盟国や中立国に対してもつねに支持や同調を獲得し、国際世論を味方につけるためのプロパガンダ活動が行われたが、その効果を測定するために国内外で世論調査が実施された。本研究は、冷戦期の「広報外交」において世論調査が果たした役割を問い直すことによって、世論調査の持つ政治性を歴史社会学的に明らかにしようとするものである。
