Outline of Research at the Start

本研究課題では、第二次世界大戦に従軍したアメリカのエスニック・マイノリティ兵士に焦点を当て、従軍がエスニシティにいかに影響を与えたかを明らかにする。従来マイノリティ兵士は、従軍によって社会に統合されるか否かという「排除と包摂」の観点から論じられてきた。それに対し前課題では、日系アメリカ人二世の従軍とエスニシティについて議論した。本研究はそこから発展し、日系のほか、アメリカにおいて「敵国」をルーツに持つドイツ系やイタリア系兵士、植民地支配や迫害の歴史を持つコリア系やユダヤ系兵士に焦点を当てる。従軍にまつわるオーラル・ヒストリー、体験記、自伝、展示を分析し、上記の問いに取り組む。
