日本は急速に少子高齢化が進み、労働力不足の対策の一つとして外国人労働者の受け入れ拡大が行われ、在日外国人の継続的増加に伴って在日外国人の高齢化の進行が予想される。多文化共生社会を目指し、在日外国人に向けて行政や市民団体による様々な活動が行われているなか、在日外国人高齢者への支援が求められている。在日外国人高齢者の課題は個々人が解決するには限界があり、とくに言語の壁がある外国人として必要な情報に至るにもバリアがあるため、同じ言葉と文化を有する人による支援が望ましいと言える。本研究では、エスニック・コミュニティの課題を把握し、在日外国人高齢者を支援する在日外国人専門職の役割を明確にする。
